8th Symposium on General Population Screening for T1D

November 10-11, 2025

Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes

The symposium aims to explore the expanding evidence and current international efforts to identify pre-symptomatic T1D, emphasizing the potential benefits such as delayed progression and prevention of complications. Through expert panels and case studies, the event will also address the challenges of monitoring and supporting children with early-stage T1D, as well as the combined screening for both T1D and celiac disease. The discussions will conclude with future directions for screening, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts and policy guidance.

Target Audience: Healthcare professionals including MD, DO, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, and dieticians; researchers in the area of screening, monitoring, and prevention of diabetes; lay representatives of patient organizations and representatives of funding agencies.

Learning Objectives:

1) Review the latest consensus guidelines and global evidence supporting early detection and screening for stage 1 and 2 type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the general population.

2) Explain advancements in islet autoantibody screening methods, including laboratory techniques and strategies for staging and risk stratification.

3) Explain best practices for confirming positive screening results and communicating findings to families and patients.

4) Discuss emerging interventions, clinical trials, and implementation strategies aimed at delaying or preventing progression to symptomatic T1D.

5) Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address challenges in screening implementation, patient monitoring, and integration into clinical workflows across healthcare systems.
