Background 

Dr. Armento attended Medical College of Georgia, completed her pediatrics residency and primary care sports medicine fellowship at the University of Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå and Children’s Hospital Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå, and currently sees patients at the Sports Medicine Center at Children’s Hospital Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå. As a female athlete, Dr. Armento has had both positive and negative experiences that inspire her to work toward advancing women’s research in the field of sports medicine. Presently, her research focuses on the physiological and psychological consequences of relative energy deficiency in young female athletes.   

Research + Funding 

In 2022, Dr. Armento received a seed grant from the Ludeman Center and pursued her project, “Menstrual Profiles and Cardiovascular Disease Risk among Female Adolescent Athletes with and without Menstrual Irregularities.” The project examines the feasibility of a standardized methodology to classify and confirm menstrual status among adolescent female athletes in line with best practice recommendations. Her research compares blood lipid profiles and proinflammatory markers in eumenorrheic vs amenorrhoeic athletes to understand the potential association of menstrual irregularity and cardiovascular disease risk factors in the adolescent athlete population.   

Transforming Women’s Health 

With the support of the Ludeman Center, Dr. Armento continues her mission of improving the health and well-being of young female athletes through her clinical and research work and to expand the women’s health research field.
