Scott Rice was born and raised in rural Missouri. In 1996, Scott graduated high school and joined the United States Army. Following basic and advanced individual training in Military Intelligence, Scott spent his first assignment with the 504th MI BDE at Fort Hood, TX.
Here, Scott volunteered and was selected for an individual deployment to Southwest Asia in support of OPERATION’S Southern Watch and Desert Fox. Following this deployment, Scott was reassigned to the 1st Infantry Division in Germany in 1999 . While at this assignment, he deployed twice to Kosovo in support of OPERATION Joint Guardian and twice to EGYPT. Additionally, he was promoted Sergeant and Staff Sergeant and earned the coveted Thomas J. Stockton award for Excellence in Military Intelligence during this assignment. At the end of this tour, Scott was assigned to the 3rd U.S. Army.
30 days after reporting to 3rd Army, Scott was to deployed to the Coalition Land Forces Component Command’s Forward HQ in Kuwait. Here, Scott worked an All-Source Intelligence Battle Captain, Collection Manager, and Forward Detachment NCOIC during the lead up to the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March 2003. Scott was a part of the initial push into Iraq after months of preparation in Kuwait. Following this combat deployment to Iraq, Scott was selected for promotion to Sergeant First Class and reassigned to 5th Special Forces Group at Fort Campell, KY.
While assigned to Fort Campbell, Scott deployed two more times is support of OPERATION Iraqi Freedom. In 2006, he was selected to serve at the Army’s Human Resources Command, in Alexandria, VA.
While here, Scott served as Branch Manager responsible for the professional development and career assignments for over 6,000 Soldiers across three separate Military Occupational Specialties. While at this assignment, Scott was promoted to Master Sergeant and attended Assessment and Selection for one of DOD’s Special Mission Units.
At this assignment, Scott attended and graduated from a 12-month Operational Training Course. From 2009-2012, Scott deployed in support of several highly sensitive SOF Missions across NORTHCOM, SOUTHCOM, and CENTCOM, which earned him a selection for promotion to Sergeant Major-at only 16 years of servive and Detachment Sergeant Major.
From 2013-2015, Scott was selected to serve as the Unit’s Recruiting Sergeant Major. Scott served as the face of the Unit while executing operations at the highest levels of command across four branches of Service at a time of unrelenting OPTEMPO and extraordinary manning shortages. Scott’s recruiting teams executed targeted operations to nearly every installation in the United States Army, but also over 30 sister-service bases worldwide, to include combat zones. During this assignment Scott was deployed for around 200 days a year in support of recruiting operations and reception site SGM for Assessment and Selection four times a year..
Next, Scott was selected for and served as a SOF Troop SGM. During this posting, Scott oversaw missions of three 2-10 person teams deployed across the globe 365/24/7. His teams were directly responsible for some of the most consequential military operations from 2015-2017.
In 2017, Scott was eligible for retirement. He was convinced by unit leadership to return for one more round of recruiting and talent management. From 2017 to 2023, Scott team’s experienced outstandings results. Their efforts reached 105% unit manning for the first time ever. His team broke their own recruiting records three years straight. Lastly, he team was recognized for excellence in being the standard in COVID Mitigation training across USASOC.
In 2023, Scott began the process of retiring. Like many others, he finally slowed down and began processing the previous 27 years. It was determined by the medical offices that Scott needed a lot of therapy to include pain, substance abuse, PTS, and TBI. From 2023-25, Scott put in 100s of hours doing just that. Scott has participated in many therapy modalities, most of which was provided by one of the clinics associated with the Avalon Action Alliance. Scott attended Warriors Heart-TX and Warriors Hear-VA in 2023 and 2024. Also in 2024, Scott attended 16 weeks of TBI Treatment at the SHARE Military Initiative at the Shepherds Center in Atlanta Georgia. Following this treatment, Scott applied to serve as an intern in peer support role at the Marcus Institute for Brain Health. Following this internship, Scott was hired by MIBH in a peer support and outreach capacity.
