Pulmonary thromboendarterectomy (PTE) is a surgical procedure to remove chronic blood clots from arteries in the lung. It is used to treat chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), a rare complication in people who’ve had blood clots in their lungs. CTEPH is a serious condition in which blood clots form in the pulmonary (lung) arteries, restricting or blocking blood flow, thereby leading to high blood pressure in these arteries.
PTE, an operation performed at only a few centers across the United States, involves the surgical removal of those blood clots. The Pulmonary Hypertension Program at the University of 麻豆传媒高清 Anschutz Medical Campus is a PHA-accredited Pulmonary Hypertension Care Center and is the only care center in 麻豆传媒高清 that offers PTE as a treatment option for CTEPH.
PTE results in an immediate, long-lasting improvement of blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries, as well as improved blood flow from the heart to the lungs. For those who qualify, the procedure relieves symptoms and improves quality of life for most people with CTEPH.
