Tetralogy of Fallot
鈥婽etralogy of Fallot (pronounced fa-loh) is a birth defect that is actually a combination of four congenital abnormalities:
- ventricular septal defect (VSD)
- pulmonary stenosis
- a misplaced aorta
- right ventricular hypertrophy (a thickening of the right ventricular wall)
This quartet of defects leads to an insufficient amount of oxygenated blood being returned through the body. Surgery is needed to correct these abnormalities.
