We have numerous Translational Projects underway. Some of our ongoing projects are:
The CD3 Immunotoxcin Research is a path-breaking project using CD3 Immunotoxin, which has never been used before in transplantation. This Immunotoxin paralyzes the immune system instead of destroying the immune system like current organ suppression. Dr. Kaplan, Dr. Huang, and their teams were at the forefront of this pioneering discovery. We have support from both government and industry to utilize the CD3 Immunotoxin to study if it provides a safer form of induction therapy for kidney transplant patients.
Dr. Kaplan has been researching with Genome Canada to better understand how pharmacologic intervention changes the transcription signals. This research has been an international effort to help advance the science of Genomics in Transplant patients.
Dr. Bruce Kaplan is a Professor of Medicine and Surgery and the Medical and Scientific Director of CCTCARE.
Dr. Kaplan is an internationally renowned researcher and clinician in organ transplantation. He has over 400 peer-reviewed papers and over $20 million in extramural grants. He also has written the definitive textbook on immune pharmacology and has held three endowed chairs.
Dr. Kaplan’s research interests include immunosuppressive pharmacology, molecular biomarker development, and outcomes in transplantation. His articles have been published in various journals, including American Journal of Transplantation, Transplantation, Nature reviews, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Journal of Clinical Investigation.
Dr. Kaplan is the Executive Editor of Transplantation and on the advisory board of Nature Reviews. He has mentored numerous fellows and faculty. Three of his fellows were winners of young investigator awards by a major transplant society. Four of his trainees are now Medical Directors of renal transplant at major programs. Dr. Kaplan has also served as a reviewer for the NIH and CDRMP.
