Dermatology Residency Program

The Dermatology Residency Program at the University of �鶹��ý�� School of Medicine is a three-year program (PGY-2 through PGY-4). The program is accredited to take up to six residents per year.

We strive to provide comprehensive, ACGME-approved educational training to enable our residents to succeed in becoming well-rounded clinicians and Board-certified dermatologists
Our faculty members are dedicated to supporting our residents to pursue excellence in patient care, education, and research at each of our teaching sites.
We are committed to providing dynamic educational offerings and clinical experiences to ensure a holistic approach to the acquisition of a foundational dermatologic knowledge base.
If residents are interested in subspecialty interests beyond the foundational knowledge base, such as gaining additional expertise in dermatopathology, pediatric dermatology, micrographic surgery and cutaneous oncology (Mohs), and cosmetic surgery, we believe developing expertise in these areas requires additional fellowship training.
We support residents interested in pursuing fellowship-related subspecialties by tailoring their clinical experiences in their final year of residency using electives and encouraging opportunities in specialized training that enhance clinical expertise to optimally prepare them for their fellowship applications.

This integrated program utilizes the combined facilities of the Anschutz Medical Campus, Children's Hospital �鶹��ý��, Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Denver Health Medical Center. Training on the largest medical referral facility in the Rocky Mountain region.

Serves a diverse and underinsured patient population who tend to have more advanced, undiagnosed dermatologic disease.
Opportunities to learn how to optimize long term management of patients with limited resources.
Comprehensive approach to care with adult, pediatric, and surgical dermatology clinics held weekly. Relatively higher numbers of patients with autoimmune connective tissue diseases and immunobullous diseases.

Our dermatology residency offers a dynamic and comprehensive didactic curriculum designed to foster exceptional medical expertise. Through a meticulously structured program blending innovative teaching methods, residents engage in collaborative learning to master the complexities of dermatology.

This well-rounded approach ensures residents acquire a deep understanding of dermatological knowledge, honing their skills for a successful career.

The Department of Dermatology is accepting applications through the system from September through early November each year. We offer six positions through the following Match.

ERAS application.
A minimum of three letters of recommendation.
Medical School transcript.
Curriculum Vitae.
Dean's letter (Medical School Performance Evaluation).
USMLE scores (USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 (CK and CS) examinations as evidenced by obtaining a passing grade for these examinations, are required prior to starting residency. Applicants must also have successfully completed USMLE Step 3 examination, as evidenced by obtaining a passing grade for this examination prior to the mid-point of the first post-graduate year (PGY1).

Applicants must be

US Citizens or able to be lawfully present in the United States for the duration of training
At least in second Post-Graduate Year (PGY-2) when the first year of training begins. (Note: PGY-1 year does not have to be completed at the University of �鶹��ý��).

Criteria used for selection of applicants

Uniformly enthusiastic letters of recommendation.
Medical school transcript showing honors in at least some clerkships.
Personal statement that demonstrates a sincere interest in dermatology.
Previous scholarly activities.
Other aspects of the application that provide evidence the applicant is hard-working, ethical, mature, and a team player.

Applications

All applications will be reviewed in November of each year.
Supplemental applications are optional.
Candidates selected for interview will receive invites in alignment with the Association of Professors of Dermatology (APD) coordinated release date in November.
Virtual interviews will be scheduled for early January to accommodate flexibility for candidates.
Based on the ACGME guidelines for the recruitment cycle, interviews will be virtual.
