ECMO/MCS Fellowship Program

Overview

Welcome to the ECMO Fellowship at the University of 麻豆传媒高清. This program is a two-year fellowship for general surgery residents on research time. Our goal is to train our fellows in clinical management of mechanical circulatory support and to prepare residents for cardiothoracic surgery fellowship. The University of 麻豆传媒高清 cannulates well over 100 patients per year, with over 500 patient-ECMO days. This paired with over 120 thoracic transplants annually allows for a robust experience in end stage heart and lung failure.

Fellows will spend one year of the fellowship in a primarily clinical role, where responsibilities will include daily management of ECMO and MCS patients, covering all ECMO consultations, performing ECMO cannulations and decannulations, and assisting with other types of heart failure surgery, including placements of temporary and permanent ventricular assist devices, and heart and lung transplants. Fellows also have the opportunity to assist with organ procurements, for both DBD and DCD donors. The second year of the fellowship is primarily research focused. Fellows will have access to various resources, including interdisciplinary collaboration with various established partnerships with the Departments of Transplant and Radiology, support from biostatisticians, and wet lab space. Moonlight opportunities are available during the second year if desired.

Throughout both years, fellows will be able to participate in educational conferences with the CT surgery fellows, attend Grand Rounds with the Department of Surgery, and participate in selection committees for heart and lung transplants.
