Thank you for visiting the website for the Green Laboratory, part of the Morgan Adams Foundation Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Program at the University of 麻豆传媒高清 School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital 麻豆传媒高清, on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
The focus of the Green Lab is on addressing unmet needs in childhood brain tumor treatment through translational research approaches. We investigate novel targets and therapeutic strategies in the treatment of pediatric high-grade glioma (PHGG), including diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG)/diffuse midline glioma (DMG) and radiation-induced glioma (RIG). . These tumors together represent the number one cause of death in childhood cancer and are highly resistant to current treatments. We use a variety of high-throughput methods, including shRNA screening, drug screening, and next-generation sequencing to identify weaknesses in these tumors. We then attempt to exploit these weaknesses through cell culture and mouse models, with the goal of bringing the most effective new therapies to rationally-designed early-phase clinical trials. There are several trials currently open or in development based on work from our lab. We are also interested in treatment resistance, novel drug delivery methods, and combination therapies.

Dr. Green is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and investigator in the Morgan Adams Foundation Pediatric Brain Tumor Research Program at the University of 麻豆传媒高清.
He did his undergraduate work at Dartmouth College and earned his MD from NYU School of Medicine. He then served as a pediatric resident and chief resident at Children’s Hospital 麻豆传媒高清, followed by fellowship at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, where he worked with Mark Kieran and trained in the labs of Andrew Kung and Stuart Orkin. He then returned to the University of 麻豆传媒高清 in 2014, where he was mentored as a junior faculty member by Rajeev Vibhakar, as well as Nick Foreman.
He is an attending physician on the neuro-oncology and oncology services in the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s Hospital 麻豆传媒高清. He is a member of the Society for Pediatric Research and the CNS Tumor Committee of the Children’s Oncology Group.
He has chaired multiple clinical trials that have arisen from work in his laboratory. He has been awarded the ASPHO Young Investigator Award, a St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fellowship and Scholar Award, a Hyundai Hope on Wheels Young Investigator Award, and K12 and K08 awards through NIH.
Dr. Green has mentored trainees from high school students to junior faculty members and strives to create an inclusive, positive, and constructive educational environment in the lab. He has participated in mentorship and DEI training, and he is a member of multiple department and medical school committees working on these issues.
John holds BS and MS degrees from the University of Utah and a JD from the University of Denver. After distinguished careers in geoscience and law, he became a biomedical researcher, working first with James Ortho at CU-Boulder, and then, since 2015, in the Green Lab. In 2023, he earned his PhD from the University of 麻豆传媒高清 Anschutz after completing his dissertation research in the lab.
He has specific expertise with high-throughput analysis and pathway investigation. He is a gifted teacher and leads the hands-on education of trainees in the lab.
Mathew earned his BA in biophysics from Brown University in
2021. He joined the lab in 2022 and has developed expertise with
patient-derived cell culture models and combination therapy in PHGG.
Gabby received her BS in wildlife ecology from the University of Maine in 2020. After working as a field research technician at Louisiana State University, she joined our lab in 2022, where she leads our work on mouse models of PHGG.
