The Spots and Dots Clinic is a collaboration between the Division of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center at the University of 麻豆传媒高清 Anschutz Medical Campus. Our multidisciplinary team of providers includes gynecology providers specially trained in pediatric and adolescent reproductive health, hematologists, nursing, social work, physical therapy, 340b pharmacy supports, and psychology. Our clinic is designed to provide comprehensive, one-stop care to diagnose and treat gynecological and hematologic issues in teens and women with heavy menstrual bleeding with or without an underlying blood disorder.
Psychological consultation and liaison work is a core component of this minor rotation. This includes introduction of services and behavioral health assessment for new patients, brief behavioral health intervention for returning patients, and opportunity for ongoing behavioral health follow-up. The Psychology Resident will provide care to patients in-person at the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center or via secure telehealth platform. Consultation and liaison services are often 15-45 minutes in length. Behavioral health intake and follow-up sessions are approximately 90 and 50 minutes, respectively.
Women, girls, and gender diverse folx with menstruation potential ranging in age from adolescence to adulthood who experience heavy menstrual bleeding. Underlying causes of heavy menstrual bleeding may include underlying blood disorder (e.g., Von Willebrand disease, platelet function defects, Factor VII or XI deficiency, Hemophilia A or B, connective tissue disorders, or platelet deficiencies).
At least one hour of weekly supervision is provided for the psychology intern focused on education and review of clinical activities. Supervision will be provided by Dr. Emily Wheat. Supervision is conducted using the developmental model in which shadowing with Dr. Wheat will occur prior to the intern providing independent direct patient care. Residents will also have the opportunity to see patients in tandem with other providers as necessary. For the interested intern, shadowing within other specialty bleeding disorder and thrombosis clinics may be a possibility if timing allows.
